Amy is deaf and mute and, in her new urban environment, she is shunned by some, embraced by some and ignored by the rest. Her mother takes her to all manner of specialists, but it is from an unlikely source - a young drop out musician, Robert, from across the street - that Amy finally breaks through her self-enforced silence.

Amy starts to sing, but appears only to hear singing, not normal speech. Anyone who wants to communicate with Amy has to sing to her. The street is transformed as Amy's strange malady infectiously brings song into the dreary surroundings. But Amy's journey is not yet complete - after being chased from her home by a drunk from the streets, she finally unlocks the secret from her past.
