Today, in Campbell's own apartment building, a young woman turns up murdered. One look at the crime scene, and Campbell knows who the killer is - David Allen Griffin, a psychopath whom he tracked for five years in L.A. Campbell's worst nightmare has followed him to Chicago.

Moments later, Campbell receives a photo in the mail. It's an image of the woman who was killed in his building. And the photo was sent while she was still alive. Griffin then calls Campbell, making sure he received the photo and tells him that he will continue sending pictures to Campbell, to give him a chance to know who the victims will be, while there are still a few hours to save them.

Realizing that Griffin is attempting to lure him back into their twisted game of cat and mouse, Campbell reluctantly takes the bait.

Armed only with his own instincts and very few clues about where or who Griffin really is, Campbell returns to his obsessive hunt for one of the most elusive serial killers of our time. As the city watches, horrified, Griffin proves to Campbell how truly vulnerable and anonymous his victims are, and how helpless the authorities are, in the face of evil incarnate.

As Griffin steps up his murderous campaign, it quickly becomes clear that Campbell is his real target - and that Campbell is the only one who has half a chance of stopping the deadly rampage.
